Attorney Erika L. Stein has joined Fredrikson as an officer in its Trusts & Estates and Business & Tax Planning groups. Whether helping clients structure their estate plans or advising closely held businesses on tax and succession planning, Stein develops customized solutions that are both tax-efficient and fully aligned with her clients’ individual circumstances and personal goals.
Stein’s practice focuses on estate planning, probate and trust administration, tax planning, business succession planning and providing general legal counsel to closely held businesses. She has applied herself to this area of law throughout her career, acquiring the depth of experience to help clients structure their estate plans to meet their objectives in a tax efficient manner. Her legal expertise is paired with a genuine desire to understand each client’s unique concerns and develop customized resolutions to address their individual circumstances and personal goals. Stein prides herself on her ability to make the complexities of trust and estate law understandable and accessible to her clients. Her client-centered approach earned her the Five Star Investment Professional award in 2019 and 2022-2025.
Stein assists clients with familiar estate planning documents such as wills, revocable trusts (living trusts), financial powers of attorney, health care directives (living wills), as well as more sophisticated documents when circumstances dictate. The latter include Crummey trusts and other trusts for children or grandchildren (including Special Needs and Supplemental Needs Trusts); Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs); Spousal Lifetime Access Trusts (SLATs); Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs); Qualified Personal Residence Trusts (QPRTs); Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts (IDGTs); and Charitable remainder trusts (CRTs and CLTs).
Stein offers business and tax planning counsel to family limited partnerships, family foundations, limited liability companies and corporations (including nonprofits).
