For the seventh consecutive year, Fredrikson & Byron received national recognition for its status as one of the best U.S. law firms for female attorneys, according to two recently published Law360 surveys.
The Law360 2020 Ceiling Smashers Report recognizes firms "that are outpacing their peers as the legal industry works towards closing the gender gap in its top ranks." With women comprising 30.4 percent of its equity partners, Fredrikson & Byron ranked third among national firms with 251-600 attorneys, continuing to be among the top-ranked Minnesota-headquartered firms. The survey found the national average of female equity partners to be 22.2 percent.
In the Law360 2020 Glass Ceiling Report, Fredrikson & Byron ranked third nationally among the top 40 firms with 251-600 attorneys. Of all surveyed U.S. firms, only 37.3 percent of attorneys are female, and 46.3 percent of nonpartners are female. At Fredrikson & Byron, women make up 40.3 percent of the total U.S.-based attorney headcount, and 52.1 percent of its nonpartners are female.
Law firms' executive committees have a similar lack of female representation. The national average noted in the survey for executive committee female representation was 28 percent, while Fredrikson & Byron has 33.3 percent female representation in its executive committee.

About the Glass Ceiling Report – Law360 collected demographic data from more than 300 U.S. firms, or vereins with a U.S. component, on their attorneys by head count as of December 31, 2019, representing more than 117,000 attorneys, including more than 50,000 partners. Only U.S.-based attorneys were included in the survey, and firms had to have at least 20 U.S.-based attorneys to participate. To compare organizations of similar size, law firms were divided into categories by the number of total attorneys reported: 601 or more attorneys, 251-600 attorneys, 101-250 attorneys, and 100 or fewer attorneys. For those size categories, the report spotlights the 40 firms with top scores.
