For the eighth consecutive year, Fredrikson & Byron received national recognition for its status as one of the best U.S. law firms for female attorneys, according to two recently published Law360 surveys.
The Law360 Pulse Ceiling Smashers Report recognizes firms that are legal industry pacesetters in closing the gender gap in equity partnership. With women comprising 31.1 percent of its equity partners, Fredrikson & Byron ranked fifth nationwide among the firms in its headcount category (251-600 attorneys). The firm continues to be the top-ranked Minnesota-headquartered firm in this group.
Fredrikson & Byron also led the way among the Minnesota firms in the Law360 Pulse Glass Ceiling Report, placing among the top 20 U.S. firms with 251-600 attorneys. To determine the rankings, this year’s survey employed new methodology, whereby a law firm’s percentage of women across three attorney levels – equity partners, nonequity partners and associates – were compared with the potential marketplace of hires.
On the whole, the survey finds that despite its avowed commitment to improving the prospects of women in legal profession, the industry made only modest progress in 2020. Women make up 40 percent of attorneys promoted to partner (equity or nonequity), 20 percent of partners, and 30 percent of executive committee members.

About the Glass Ceiling Report – Law360 collected demographic data from 277 U.S. firms, vereins with a U.S. component, or law firms with a substantial U.S. presence of at least 50 attorneys by headcount as of December 31, 2020, representing about 110,000 attorneys, including about 49,000 partners. Only U.S.-based attorneys were included in the survey. U.S.-headquartered firms had to have at least 20 attorneys to participate. To compare organizations of similar size, law firms were divided into categories by the number of total attorneys reported: 601 or more attorneys, 251-600 attorneys, 101-250 attorneys, and 100 or fewer attorneys.
