Shareholder Edward Q. Cassidy was selected to receive the 2016 Attorney of the Year award from Minnesota Lawyer. Cassidy was recognized for his countless hours spent as lead counsel, and Counsel of Record at the United State Supreme Court, on a Post-Conviction Capital Case in Louisiana, that, last March, after seven years of hearings and appeals, resulted in the Supreme Court of the United States vacating the capital conviction. Minnesota Lawyer will host its 17th Annual Attorney of the Year ceremony on February 16 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.
Cassidy has 35 years of litigation experience in a variety of jurisdictions on matters ranging from state and federal OSHA, workers’ compensation, general litigation in state and federal court involving many jury trials, to several post-conviction habeas corpus death penalty cases. Cassidy practices in the Employment & Labor and Litigation Groups at Fredrikson & Byron. He is a litigator with more than 3 decades of experience in civil litigation, workers’ compensation defense, employment and OSHA defense. Cassidy’s workers’ compensation practice focuses on advising and representing employers in all phases of risk assessment and management, implementation and maintenance of modified duty programs, defending workers’ compensation claims through trial. He defends civil matters related to workers’ compensation such as retaliatory discharge, disability discrimination (ADA) claims, third-party liability suits, and subrogation. In addition, Cassidy represents healthcare, manufacturing, and construction clients in a wide variety of state and federal OSHA jurisdictions.
