The Iowa Supreme Court has appointed Fredrikson shareholder Brandon R. Underwood as a member of the state’s Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Underwood will serve a three-year term ending June 30, 2026. The Office of Professional Regulation provides executive and administrative support to the commission, whose duties include accrediting courses, programs and educational activities that will satisfy the educational requirements of Iowa lawyers.

Underwood is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. He’s first chaired jury trials in Iowa and Minnesota, advocated in multiple bench trials, and briefed and argued several appeals in the state and federal systems. Underwood has also successfully opposed a petition for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court.

In his litigation practice, Underwood represents parties in disputes involving contracts, negligence, business torts, fraud, and mergers and acquisitions. Underwood also represents employers and individuals in employment litigation involving discrimination, harassment and the Fair Labor Standards Act. He has drafted and enforced non-compete and trade secret agreements in state and federal courts.

In his construction practice, Underwood serves owners, developers, and contractors on public and private construction projects to resolve disputes in mediation, arbitration and litigation. His experience includes mechanic’s liens, bid protests, defects, delays, negligence, DBE compliance and federal construction contracts.
