John H. Stout, shareholder and co-chair of Fredrikson & Byron’s Corporate Governance Group, Sustainability & Social Responsibility Group and Artificial Intelligence (AI) working group, was named a member of the 2018 (Real) Power 50 by Minnesota Business magazine. Stout is a past Chair of the American Bar Association's Corporate Governance Committee. He advises executives, boards and individual directors and officers of for-profit and nonprofit organizations on a variety of domestic and international governance matters, including sustainability (ESG) and corporate social responsibility (CSR), Artificial Intelligence (AI) oversight, internal investigations, performance improvement, and the legal implications of business strategies and decisions. He has served as an expert witness on governance matters in litigation and arbitration proceedings.
Stout serves as a director of several nonprofit and for-profit corporations. He is a former director of the Center for International Private Enterprise, Washington, D.C., the National Association of Corporate Directors (and co-founder of its Minnesota Chapter), and a former trustee of Carleton College. He is an adjunct professor, teaching a governance course at the University of St. Thomas Law School and frequently writes and speaks on corporate governance matters. Stout is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American College of Governance Counsel. In 2017, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Corporate Governance from Twin Cities Business.
