There has been an increase of reports in recent weeks that the Trump administration is likely to make an announcement in the coming days or, at most, weeks regarding additional restrictions on foreign nationals entering the U.S. for employment or other purposes. In addition to extending his Executive Order banning certain travel, it is possible that President Trump will attempt to restrict work authorization and substantially increase filing fees for foreign nationals within the U.S. Details of the restrictions have not been released but it is suspected there will be exceptions for certain workers, such as physicians and other essential workers. Please know that, at the moment, this is mostly speculative, although it is certainly causing consternation among foreign national employees and the companies of employment. Be assured that we will send updates as soon as additional information becomes available and that we are following these events closely.
In the interim, it may be advisable for employers to request any employees currently abroad with valid visas to return to the U.S. if they are able to travel.
